WHAT IS THE SKIPPING STONE MATH METHOD?

Our methodology is based on three tenets: Mathematics, Teaching Philosophy, and Learning Optimization

The way math is taught in schools needs to change. Formula sheets and brute repetition of problems are all too common, despite their failure to communicate both the logical and creative aspects of math. We teach math as an interconnected, systematic way of thinking that makes sense to students.

We understand that a good teacher can help anybody amplify their potential. We are committed to upholding respect and trust between students and tutors, and acknowledging each student as a unique individual. Our instructional style is not fixed, but changes on a case-to-case basis to help students succeed.

Our method transcends individual subjects, taking into account principles found in music, sports, and numerous other activities to create a learning environment designed to maximize student performance.

Lenny Shalman serves as head tutor at Skipping Stone Math.

He is a graduate of the STEAM certified Center for Advanced Studies at Wheeler High School. He earned 5's (maximum score) on both AP Calculus exams and a perfect math SAT score. In addition, he completed the most advanced math classes offered by the school, including Multivariable Calculus.

Lenny has been tutoring since 2015, and has extensive experience working with school age children.

Math education has always been a passion for Lenny, and he hopes to continue to help improve the lives of students by maximizing their in-school performance, and by giving them a glimpse into the fascinating nature of mathematics.
